It is no secret that London is one of the greatest cities in the entire world, but there might be times where you want to escape the capital and there are a handful of places which are quick and easy to reach from London St Pancras which are highly worth considering:
1. Bedford
Bedford is a beautiful county town north of London which can be a great escape from the busy streets of the capital. If the weather permits, a trip to the Priory Country Park is a must as one of the best green spaces in the area. Bedford is also home to beautiful 13th-century churches, a range of excellent museums and galleries and other highlights for every type of visitor. It can also be easy to reach with a train travelling from St Pancras to Bedford.
2. Cambridge
Close to Bedford is the historic city of Cambridge which is famed for its prestigious University, stunning architecture and culture so there is plenty to see and do here. One of the best ways to enjoy the city is simply to stroll the streets taking in the sights, soaking up the atmosphere and stopping off at the various cafes, shops and pubs that you’ll find along the way.
3. Brighton
Travelling down to the south coast, Brighton is a lovely city with a laidback atmosphere which can be a refreshing change of pace from London. Chilling on the beach is an obvious highlight but a few other ideas for a trip here include exploring the stunning Royal Pavilion, wandering through The Lanes, the Sealife Centre and the Pier.
4. Sutton
Just south of the city centre and on the lower slopes of the beautiful South Downs is Sutton which is a quick escape from the busy streets and somewhere with plenty to keep you entertained. A few of the highlights here include Nonsuch Park and Place, Richmond Park, Mayfield Lavender Farm and the Church of St Mary the Virgin.
5. Peterborough
Located in eastern England, the picturesque city of Peterborough is known for its breathtaking Gothic architecture and the grand stately home known as Burghley House. There is much more to do than just this, though, as you can also see a Bronze Age village at the Flag Fen Archaeology Park, enjoy nature in the peaceful Nene Park and more.
These are just a few options for places that you can easily reach from the capital and will all allow for a lovely day out and a nice escape from the busy streets of London.
